Video Assignment 1: Basic Video Shooting
Using any video camera that creates files usable by Premiere you will shoot the following list: (be creative and fun, but also be safe!)
1. The Stairs
3 different angles of someone walking down a staircase. shoot from above, mid height and bottom of staircase.
Edit together as one continuous motion. examples below.
You have to shoot the same action from three different angles and then you will edit them together as one continuous scene.

Step by Step (literally)
In this basic exercise we are going to learn about continuity editing. if you've ever watched a movie or TV show where someone is moving through a room or around a corner or up and down stairs and wondered where the cameras were in a reverse shot this project is for you. Believe it or not most lower budget films and TV shows are shot single camera. In order to get reverse shots the scene needs to be acted twice.
In this project you're going to actually shoot the motion three times. In the example below we see the actor being shot from below coming down a staircase. In the second shot you see a continuation of the action but the camera has changed position. In the third shot the action concludes with the actor moving out of screen and the camera is at the lowest level of the stairs.
Details
You could do this project with your actor walking up or down the stairs. It doesn't really matter. You can also do this simply turning the corner around a house or any other situation that's handy to you at home. And that's basically the project in a nutshell.
Editing
In premier you'll put your clips into your project bin and change the In-N-Out points so the action looks seamless when the storyline is played. That means you have to get everything exactly frame accurate. That sounds difficult but it isn't.

2. The Knock-Knock Joke
Simply pick a knock knock joke and shoot it three times from three different angles. Those angles are actually quite important and you'll see in the video below. the example of the two shot which includes both actors the establishing shot which shows the exterior of the scene, the bust shot. The following shots must be included.
Establishing shot
2 shot - includes both actors in the frame as thy are in spacial relationship to each other. Are they on opposite sides of a door? Are they social distancing? etc...
OTS - over the shoulder - The OTS establishes a back and forth dynamic between the characters. Typically directors will mix up the shots to make it more interesting than a simple 2 shot.
Reverse shot - typically the same shot from the other character's POV.
Reaction shot - Close up of the person reacting to the punch line. Does someone get punched? Up to you!
credits and music for the close.

TIPS
1. In this demonstration of continuity editing your match cutting is really important in creating the comedy. If you're working with other actors please be sure to rehearse the scene about 10 times until all the giggles have been worked out.
2. Make sure your actors are not rushing through it they have to breathe between the lines. That little pause between lines allows you to edit comedy and control the timing. Don't let them rush!
3. You will also create credits and add music. Laugh track optional!
This is a great video for understanding the way cuts are made with Premiere and all NLE systems.
