Photography: Level 1 - Composition
Rule of Thirds - Within your viewfinder on your camera imagine a tic-tac-toe board superimposed over what you see- The lines should divide the screen evenly into 3rds. There are a few easy rules to follow until it becomes second nature to you.
Photo Sin #1 CENTRALIZATION - Avoid placing the subject in the center rectangle. Most amateurs put people's faces right in the middle of the frame. There is a better way!
1. Look for directionality. Which way is the subject leading or facing? If the subject is looking to the viewer's right try placing the subject on the left vertical line.
2. The eye line. The top horizontal line is called the eye line and is a common composition tool. the vast majority of tv shows and movies use the eye line ALL THE TIME.

Composition Assignment: Take a series of action shots of a person, landscape stills, and still-lifes and take multiple shots of each subject changing the composition for at least 3 shots each.
You will post 9 photos total, 3 for each subject. to show how the rule of thirds applies to your framing choices. Pay particular attention to directionality of your subject. Shoot one image centralized and then using the power points of the rule of thirds show more options by placing the focal points where the lines intersect. You can also do this through cropping of a centralized photo.

This gallery should be complete by midterms. If you find a better example of a letter just replace what you have.
