Podcast Assignment: The Partner Biography
Step 1: Introduce yourself to your class partner and conduct an interview wherein you ask some general questions. Cover the Who, what, where, when, why, and how. You're free to interpret that as you see fit. You're trying to tell an interesting story about your partner so find a dramatic moment related to their hobbies, travels, media experiences etc.
<<If you missed the class and didn't get a classmate, please interview the most exciting person you can find!>>
Step 2: Once interview is complete, look at the answers and turn them into a story that begins with a narrative-hook. That's a tactic that sets the stakes of the story at a high point. here's an example: I interviewed a student and here are the responses to the basic questions I asked.
Big Red / Fairfield
Norte Dame HS / Criminal justice minor com.
Pursue criminals
Plays Club Hockey / has 2 older brothers
Cousin is a sportscaster
visited 1980 hockey rinks
Here is my script based on the responses:
If there was any one place that Big Red considered to be hollowed ground it was here. before he was born a legendary event transpired on this oval of ice. Red laced up his skates and stepped onto a frozen patch of history. team America won gold in the 1980 Winter Olympics here in Lake Placid New York and Red literally felt a chill as he breathed in the frozen air.
Red is as local to Sacred Heart University as it gets, living just down the street he attended Notre Dame high school just across from Sacred Heart's back door. A criminal justice major with a minor in communications here at the University, Red also plays club hockey and is enjoying his time exploring his major. He's not sure where the future will take him, but he's taking his skates. Reporting for WHRT Radio This is Matt Kreckie. Thanks for listening.
Step 3: Read the script out loud to someone and take suggestions. Revise script and incorporate key quotes from your subject into your script.
Step 4: Record your narration to GarageBand or Audition.
Step 5: The completed podcast will be exported as a wav or AAC and posted to your personal Soundcloud account. Take the "Embed" code and use the HTML widget in Weebly to post the player to your portfolio. Do not upload the GarageBand project file to Soundcloud. It won't work.
Step 5: incorporate critique notes and post final version to soundcloud.com. Give full quality version to your classmate to post on “About me” page.
Step 6: Podcast will be embedded on your portfolio page. Details in class.
